Bangladesh Army personnel carried out searches at the
homes of three villagers in Borkalak, located in Panchari Upazila of
Khagrachari district.
According to sources, at around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday
(20 November 2025), a group of 30–35 soldiers marched on foot from a temporary
camp set up at Chamme Adam and entered Borkalak Village. They then conducted
intrusive searches at the homes of three residents.
Those subjected to the operation were:
1. Sugandha Chakma (50), son of Jitendra Chakma
2. Mangal Chakma (40), son of the late Jagadish
Chandra Chakma
3. Jitto Chakma (27), son of Shantimoy Chakma
During the searches, soldiers reportedly interrogated
the villagers, asking, ‘Where do UPDF members reside, and how many are
present?’
After finding nothing, the soldiers left the area.
Local residents note that around 150 army personnel
have been stationed for the past month in various temporary camps set up across
Logang Union in Panchari Upazila. From these camps, they have allegedly been
conducting operations in nearby villages, including searching homes, seizing
belongings, and carrying out acts of harassment and intimidation.
However, residents also claim that no operations have
been conducted in Macchyachara and Dudukchara—areas known to host armed members
of the JSS (Santu Group). They allege that although the Santu Group moves
openly with weapons and engages in various unlawful activities, the army has
taken no action against them.
