The army has been stationed for eight days at two
locations in the Babuchara area of Dighinala upazila in Khagrachari district.
They have constructed a helipad on land belonging to a villager.
It is learned that from the morning of 9 November
2025, more than 90 army personnel took position in two places: Nunchari Tarit
Kanti Karbari Para of Ward No. 5 in Babuchara Union, and in Monivadhra Karbari
Para (Bagan Para) of Ward No. 1 in the neighboring Dighinala Union.
Later, the army dug up land in an empty part of the
garden belonging to Dipak Kumar Chakma, a resident of Nunchari Tarit Kanti
Karbari Para, and built a helipad there. It has also been reported that the
army cut down some trees in the garden.
Afterward, the army team positioned in Tarit Kanti
Karbari Para moved a short distance away and is currently stationed there.
Meanwhile, the army team positioned in Bagan Para
remains at the same location.
From both locations, the army has been patrolling the
surrounding areas, causing residents to remain in a state of concern and
uncertainty.
An elder from the area, who requested anonymity, told
this reporter:
“We do not know for what purpose the army is staying
in our area. Their presence has put ordinary people in fear. Since we have no
way of knowing what they might do at any moment—or whose home they might
search—everyone is anxious.”
A woman said:
“Since the army came here, we have been living in
constant worry. They patrol the area at different times. We cannot say when
something might happen. So we want them to leave as soon as possible.”
Further inquiries revealed that the army has been
trying to gather information about UPDF leaders and activists by offering some
people cash, mobile recharge, and other incentives.
Another source reported that the army may conduct a
major operation in the area within a few days.
It is worth noting that earlier, around 1:30 a.m. on
the night of 10 November, a group of soldiers from the Babuchara Subzone
conducted what villagers described as a harassing search of nine homes in
Dhanurddhar Karbari Para in the Nityagan area of Dighinala Union. During the
operation, the soldiers reportedly trampled and damaged harvested paddy in a
farmer’s field with their boots.
Before that, from 31 October to 8 November, a group of
soldiers allegedly constructed a helipad near a Buddhist monastery in the
Dhanpada area of Babuchara Union, forcibly used items belonging to the
monastery, and even stayed in a room used as the monastery’s preaching hall,
converting it into a temporary camp.
