A large-scale army operation has been reported in
Kalabania village of Ward No. 8, within Fatikchari Union No. 2 in Kaukhali
Upazila of Rangamati. During the operation, the army allegedly detained a man
named Rajan Chakma; however, according to his family members, his whereabouts
remain unknown.
It is learned that on Tuesday (23 December 2025), a
group of 80 army personnel departed from the Ghagra Champatali Army Camp in
Rangamati and went to Nabhanga village. After spending the night there, the
soldiers moved to Kalabania village at around 4:00 a.m. the following day (24
December).
While the army was stationed at Kalabania School, at
approximately noon that day, they detained Rajan Chakma, son of Shanti Kumar
Chakma, a resident of Kalabania village. At the time, Rajan Chakma had gone to
bathe in a nearby stream.
Rajan Chakma lives with his family in the Barmachari
Bazar area. He had gone to his ancestral village home in Kalabania to look
after his garden.
One of his neighbors said, “I heard Rajan Chakma
talking with the soldiers. Since then, there has been no trace of him.”
Upon receiving news of her son’s disappearance, Rajan
Chakma’s mother, Milna Devi Chakma, traveled from Barmachari to their village
home in Kalabania on Thursday morning (25 December 2025). She met a Subedar
stationed there and inquired about her son. At that time, the Subedar recorded
Rajan’s biodata and advised her to inquire at the Kaukhali Police Station.
When this report was being prepared, inquiries made at
Kaukhali Police Station revealed that the duty officer denied any detention of
Rajan Chakma.
Additionally, it has been alleged that on the same
day, soldiers broke into the house of Bidarsha Chakma (28), son of Meru Chakma,
and took away stored vegetables, rice, and cooking utensils.
Villagers also told this reporter that four armed men
wearing masks were seen accompanying the soldiers.
Meanwhile, in Ultachari village under Barmachari Union
No. 3 of Lakshmichari Upazila in Khagrachari, a group of approximately 70
soldiers from the Lakshmichari Zone reportedly went on an operation today (25
December). The soldiers are currently stationed at the site of a Buddhist
monastery under construction in Ultachari village. Their presence at the
monastery has caused widespread dissatisfaction among ordinary religious
devotees.
In addition, a contingent of around 40 army personnel
has reportedly been stationed for a long time in a lychee orchard belonging to
Shanti Kumar Chakma, located beside Barmachari Bazar.
