The Bangladesh Army, accompanied by several masked
individuals described as hired vigilantes, reportedly conducted a late-night
search operation at the residence of UPDF member Bijog Khisa in Mahalchhari
upazila of Khagrachhari district.
According to local sources, the operation took place
at approximately 1:00 a.m. on May 23, 2026, in the Nua Para area of Ward No. 9
under Mahalchhari Sadar Union. A team of army personnel from the Mahalchhari
Zone allegedly arrived in four vehicles along with 6-7 armed masked men before
surrounding the residence of Bijog Khisa.
Family members were awakened before security personnel
entered the house and carried out a search. Bijog Khisa was not present during
the operation. His wife, their two-year-old son, and a relative, Urmita Chakma,
a seventh-grade student, were inside the house at the time.
Sources alleged that army personnel seized a laptop
and a basic mobile phone belonging to Khisa’s wife during the search.
Following the operation, Bijog Khisa’s wife and Urmita
Chakma were reportedly questioned separately. According to family members, one
masked individual conducted the interrogation while army personnel remained
nearby.
The family claimed they identified one of the masked
men accompanying the soldiers as Biraj Muni Chakma.
Local residents also alleged that the army brought a
businessman identified as Kalinkar Chakma from the Dhumni Ghat area during the
operation.
According to Bijog Khisa’s wife, the soldiers
collected signatures and mobile phone numbers from family members on a sheet of
paper before leaving the premises.
Meanwhile, sources said businessman Kalinkar Chakma
was instructed to appear at the Mahalchhari Zone on Saturday. He was also
reportedly told to meet the masked individuals at Bridge Para after reporting
to the zone.
