An alleged group of Bangladesh Army-backed masked
vigilante terrorists shot and killed a member of the United People’s Democratic
Front (UPDF) in Dighinala, Khagrachari.
The incident took place early Saturday morning, May 9,
2026, in Shuknochhara village in the Jorabridge area of Ward No. 3 under
Kobakhali Union in Dighinala, Khagrachari.
The deceased was identified as Hegera Chakma, also
known as Tarun (49), son of Rong Moni Chakma, from Retkaba village under Sajek
Union in Baghaichhari, Rangamati.
According to reports, Hegera Chakma and another
individual spent the night at a house in Shuknochhara village. At around 5:45
AM, while leaving for organizational work, he was allegedly ambushed by armed
masked terrorists who opened fire on him. He died at the scene.
Local residents said that after carrying out the
killing, the attackers fled toward Boroituli and later moved through Hanggarima
Chhara in the Jorabridge area toward Tarabannya.
According to information provided by locals, between 2:00 and 3:00 AM before the incident, an armed group of 11 masked vigilantes led by Jekson Chakma and Ashish Tripura reportedly traveled by vehicle from the College Tila area of Dighinala town to Shuknochhara, where they lay in wait before carrying out the attack at dawn.
Sources further claimed that a man named Borno Chakma
is currently leading the group of masked vigilantes operating in Dighinala.
The UPDF strongly condemned the killing and demanded
the immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible.
