An Indigenous female student of Khagrachhari Cantonment Public
School and College has accused a Bengali man of pretending to be mentally ill
in order to inappropriately touch her in what she described as a "bad
touch" incident in Khagrachhari.
The allegation surfaced after the victim shared a Facebook post
about the incident, which reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at
Chengi Square in Khagrachhari Sadar.
In her post, the student, who identified herself as an HSC
examination candidate at Khagrachhari Cantonment Public School and College,
said that her farewell ceremony had been held earlier that day. While returning
home after the event, she alleged that the man, who appeared to be mentally
ill, deliberately touched her inappropriately.
She said she grabbed the man and was about to assault him, but he
immediately began acting like a mentally ill person. Believing that he was
genuinely mentally ill, she refrained from hitting him. However, moments later,
she realized that he was only pretending.
According to the student, she and several of her friends then
confronted and beat the man. During the incident, he reportedly told her,
"You are like my mother," which further convinced her that he was not
mentally ill, as she believed a genuinely mentally ill person would not make
such a statement.
Expressing frustration in her Facebook post, the student said many
people were present when the alleged inappropriate touching occurred, but no
one came forward to help. Instead, bystanders reportedly watched and repeatedly
said, "He's mentally ill. Let him go."
She warned others that the man was not mentally ill but was
allegedly pretending in order to inappropriately touch girls.
The student also thanked her friends for standing by her during the
incident.
