One activist of the United People's Democratic Front
(UPDF) has been killed and another detained while injured following an alleged
army ambush in Ramgarh Upazila, Khagrachhari district.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in the Premtala area of Ramgarh.
The slain activist was identified as Bobin Tripura,
32. A second activist, Mangsanu Marma, also known as Jibon, 29, has gone
missing and is believed to have been taken into custody while wounded.
In a statement issued to media, UPDF Khagrachhari
District Organizer Angya Marma strongly condemned the incident, describing it
as a premeditated killing. He alleged that army personnel had been lying in
wait in the Premtala area before launching the attack on the UPDF activists.
Marma further alleged that the army has been carrying
out extrajudicial killings in an effort to suppress the movement led by the
UPDF in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and asserted that no degree of repression
would halt the mass movement operating under the organization's leadership.
He also dismissed as false and fabricated official
claims of a "gunfight between the army and UPDF" and the reported
recovery of weapons.
The UPDF has demanded an immediate end to political
repression against the organization, prosecution of the army personnel
allegedly responsible for the killing, and the unconditional release of the
detained activist.
