A member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot dead by armed members of the PCJSS (Santu Group) at Babuchara crossroads under Babuchara Union in Dighinala, Khagrachhari District, on Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2026.
The victim was identified as Sujan Chakma, 48, son of Binanda Mohan Chakma and a resident of Tarabannya Village in Ward No. 6 of Kabakhali Union of Dighinala Upazila.
According to local sources, at approximately 12:45 p.m., a group of five to six armed individuals affiliated with the PCJSS (Santu Group), dressed in civilian clothes, arrived at the Babuchhara Muropara crossroads. The group was reportedly led by Purna Priya Chakma, commander of an armed unit operating under Chinumong Marma. Sujan Chakma was present at the location at the time and was reportedly engaged in organizational activities. The attackers opened fire on him, and eyewitnesses stated that he died at the scene.
Following the killing, the assailants reportedly fled toward Dhanpada via Sadhanatila Road, passing by the Jarulchhari Army Camp. Police from Dighinala Police Station later recovered the body.
Local residents have raised suspicions of possible collusion by state security forces in the incident.
The Dighinala Unit of the UPDF strongly condemned the
killing and demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible.
