Allegations have surfaced against an army detachment
for conducting an extensive search at the residence of three brothers and
harassing family members in Bhangamura village under Ward No. 8 of Burighat
Union in Nanyachar Upazila, Rangamati.
According to local sources, the search operation took
place today, Thursday, July 30, 2026, at around 2:00 PM.
The targeted residence belongs to the three sons of
the late Shanti Kumar Chakma: Jiban Chakma (42), Junen Chakma (37), and Sohag
Basu Chakma (36). All of them are residents of Bhangamura village.
Local sources reported that at approximately 10:00 AM
today, a contingent of 25 to 30 army personnel from the Burighat Sub-Zone set
up camp in a temporary tent at a location named Hulle Beel, situated in the
middle of Kaptai Lake adjacent to Garjantoli village. Later, at around 2:00 PM,
the troops traveled from the camp to Bhangamura village via an engine-driven
boat and surrounded the residence of the three brothers. The soldiers then
entered the house, conducted an extensive search, and ransacked their belongings.
It is alleged that during the raid, the troops
harassed the family members under the pretext of interrogation while searching
for alleged "terrorists."
However, victims and local villagers stated that after finding nothing illegal despite the thorough search, the army personnel recorded video footage using their smart mobile phones before departing the scene.
The sudden and aggressive nature of the army search
has sparked widespread anxiety among the villagers, who have demanded an
immediate end to the harassment of innocent civilians without cause.
