Army personnel in Matiranga, Khagrachhari, have been accused of detaining, assaulting, and harassing a local man overnight following a search of his residence.

The victim has been identified as Dhoillyarai Tripura, 52, son of the late Nirendra Tripura. He resides in Birendra Karbari Para (Ward No. 3) under Matiranga Sadar Union.

According to local sources, a contingent of over 50 army personnel from the Matiranga Army Zone cordoned off and searched Dhoillyarai Tripura’s home between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM last night.

Although the search yielded no illegal items, the soldiers took him into custody. He was reportedly held in a nearby forested area throughout the night, where he was subjected to physical abuse and interrogation. He was finally released around 9:00 AM on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Eyewitnesses noted that the military personnel were accompanied by 4 to 5 masked vigilantes (locally referred to as Thangare).

In a separate incident, another group of 15 army personnel from the Taikathang Army Camp was reportedly deployed to conduct operations in the Mairum Para area of the same upazila.
