Residents of Shijkchhara Village in Ward No. 7 of
Sajek Union, Rangamati District, have accused members of the Bangladesh Army
and police of carrying out a harassing search at a local resident's home,
alleging that security personnel damaged household property despite finding no
evidence of illegal activity.
According to local sources, the incident occurred
around 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, when a team of 16 soldiers from the Machalong
Sub-Zone, accompanied by 10 to 12 police officers, including female officers,
entered Shijkchhara Village. The police contingent was led by Machalong Police
Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Tofazzal.
The sources said security personnel entered the home
of Prabhat Chandra Chakma without explaining the purpose of the operation.
During the search, they allegedly ransacked the house, damaged household
belongings and left the premises in disarray.
Despite conducting what witnesses described as an
extensive search, the security personnel reportedly found no illegal items and
later returned to Machalong, according to local residents.
The incident has drawn criticism from villagers, who
described the operation as harassment of an ordinary civilian. They called on
authorities to end what they described as ongoing incidents of intimidation
against local residents.
