The deployment of Bangladesh Army personnel at three
locations in Bangaltali Union of Baghaichhari Upazila has sparked concern among
local residents, who say the sudden military presence has created an atmosphere
of fear and uncertainty in the area.
According to local sources, a 42-member army unit from
the Baghaihat Army Zone arrived at Jarulchhari Junior High School in Bangaltali
Union on Monday evening, August 10. The troops reportedly arrived in a dumper
truck and two pickup vans before splitting into three groups and establishing
positions at separate locations.
Local residents said around 20 soldiers took positions
at Jarulchhari Government Primary School, while another 12 were stationed in
the Jarulchhari Nua Dokan area. The remaining 10 reportedly established a
temporary base at the homestead of local resident Rajmohan Chakma in
Shulakchhari village.
The purpose of the deployment has not been officially
disclosed. Local residents, however, said the sudden arrival and dispersal of
the troops had caused considerable anxiety, with some fearing that security
operations or increased military activity could follow.
