3 PCP activists wounded in armed attack by Santu group

THREE activists of the Hill Students’ Council, a front organization of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF), were wounded in a terrorist attack by armed men loyal to Santu Larma, president of a faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti, sources have said.

According to sources, the attack took place in the wee hours today (at about 3am) in the village of Narikul Bagan in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari district.

‘We were sleeping in a house when three armed terrorists broke into the house and then sprayed bullets on us.’ said Kanak Joti Chakma, 19, who was injured in the attack.

He sustained a gunshot wound on the right thigh.

The two other PCP activists injured in the attack are Rubel Chakma, 16, son of Muroti Mohan Chakma of Lambachara village, Merung and Palash Chakma, 18, son of Ujjwal Kanti Chakma of village Jalbanda, Merung.

The former is a 10th grade student of Dighinala High School and general secretary of the PCP committee of that school, while the later is the president of PCP Merung Union committee.

Rubel Chakma was also hit in the right thigh while a bullet pierced through Palash Chakma’s left foot.

The wounded PCP activists have been admitted to Khagrachari hospital.
