Two UPDF activists shot dead by Santu group in Dighinala

SUSPECTED Santu Larma loyalists have shot dead two members of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) in Dighinala, Khgrachari district.

The deceased have been identified as Boithang Khiang, 18, from Gungurung Para in the southern CHT district of Bandarban and Ramesh Chakma, 18, from Nokachara village in Dighinala.

The former belong to the most endangered Khiang nationality in the CHT while the later was a new recruit.

The attack took place at 6:30pm today at a house in Kamukyachara village when the UPDF men were preparing to have dinner.

Two UPDF men died on the spot when the gunmen shot them from close range. After the incident police found 8 rounds of spent ammunition from there.

UPDF has condemned the killing as ‘cowardice’ and said, ‘It’s merely a reflection of the growing frustration and desperation that has engulfed Santu group.’
