Jumma woman subjected to Sexual assault by army in Naniachar

A JUMMA woman has been subjected to sexual assault by an army soldier in Naniachar, Rangamati district.

According to a UPDF press release, the army yesterday, Tuesday, 4 December, distributed blankets among poor people at an open ground inside Naniachar zone headquarters. Rita Chakma, 30, of Morachengey village was subjected to sexual harassment when she went there to collect the relief item.

‘An army man pressed her breasts with his hands as she queued up there,’ the release added.

The victim protested instantly and slapped him in the face with her flip-flop.

The name of the army man could not be known.

The Hill Students’ Council staged a demonstration today in Naniachari in protest against the incident.

Konika Dewan, the president of Hill Women’s Federation, has condemned the sexual harassment of Rita Chakma and demanded that the delinquent army man is brought to justice.
