ARMED men loyal to Santu Larma, chairman of the CHT Regional Council and president of his faction of the JSS, kidnapped a Jumma villager, Russel Chakma, 22, from Chongrachari village under Jibtoli Union of Rangamati Sadar Upazila.
On 28 April, around 5pm, a group of 6 - 7 armed men led by Sunirmol Dewan, 35, a Santu group commander, raided Chongrachari village and kidnapped Russel Chakma at gun point from his home.
According to eyewitness’ accounts, Russel was taken towards Belaichari in a engine boat.
The reason behind the kidnapping could not be known. Couple of years ago his father, Sumati Ranjan Chakma, was also abducted by Santu group, and is believed to have been killed.
