Two villagers have been kidnapped by military-backed Borkha Party terrorists in Laxmichari under Khagrachari district.

Sources said the terrorists kidnapped Bindu Chakma, 40, son of Dhonnya Chakma and Onol Chakma, 22, son of Sushil Kumar Chakma from Laxmichari bazaar at 2pm today.

They are from the village of Jotindra Karbari Para under Laxmichari Union No. 1. The Borkha Party men took them to Jurgachari, a Jumma populated area in Laxmichari Upazila headquarters.

Locals believe that they were kidnapped for taking part in a human chain organized by United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) on 12 July in the three districts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. In another incident, in Ruma of Bandarban district Franchis Tripura, a member of the Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti, snatched away copies of a poster from Mongbasha Marma, a UPDF supporter.

The UPDF published the poster demanding repeal of the 15th amendment to the constitution and urging people to support its call for blockade of roads and waterways in three CHT districts on 20 and 21 July. UPDF’s Shukla Chakma has condemned both the incidents and urged the government to take effective steps to find the kidnapped villagers and bring the Borkha terrorists to justice.

The JSS Santu faction also patronizes the Borkha Party vigilante group.
