DYF leader kidnapped in Chittagong

A LEADER of the Democratic Youth Forum, a front organisation of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF), was kidnapped from the port city of Chittagong. 

The incident took place at 9pm yesterday, 28 July. According to sources, Jiten Chakma, finance secretary of the DYF Bandar Thana Unit, was on his way back home after distributing leaflets about their organisation’s human chain programme when members of the JSS (Santu Larma faction) kidnapped him from New Mooring crossing. Jiten lives at Mannan Building at Miler Matha area of Bandar Thana and works at a factory at CEPZ. He is believed to have been handed over to the Rapid Action Battalion after beating. Pavel Chakma, a Santu Larma loyalist, and some Bengali youths were involved in the kidnapping. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed with Bandar police station in this connection. The police is yet to take any action against the kidnappers.
