A member of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) has been shot dead in Baghaichari under Rangamati district.
According to the party and independent sources, a group of about 15 armed members belonging to Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti raided the village of Talukderpara at about 9:30am today and shot Mohan Lal Chakma alias Jeni (30) dead.
He is from the village of Ugolchari in Baghaichari Upazila and his father’s name is Ranga Chan Chakma.
An active member of the UPDF, he was in Talukderpara village on business while the incident took place.
The Santu group men, led by Niloy Chakma, came from Shizok Doar, sources said.
Sama Shanti Chakma, organizer of UPDF Baghaichari Upazila Unit, has condemned the attack as “cowardly” and urged Santu Larma to stop such senseless killings which is harming the interest of the Jumma people.
