Jumma woman raped in Longudu

A JUMMA woman was raped by a group of Bengali settlers today in Longudu under Rangamati district, sources said.

The culprits attempted to kill her after raping her at a mango grove belonging to Ershad Master.

According to sources, Kala Dhan Chakma’s wife Ms Alpona Chakma alias Chiba Chogi of Jarulchari village under 6 Gulchakhali Union went to Mieni Doar bazaar in the morning today.

The incident happened at 1pm when the 45-year-old was on her way back home alone. As she reached at a desolate place at Ershad Master-er Ambagan (mango grove belonging to Ershad Master), the settlers attacked and raped her.

Thereafter, the settlers hacked her and left her unconscious believing her to be dead.

Later, local people rescued her in the afternoon and admitted her to AL Rabeta Hospital in Longudu in critical condition.

She bore torture marks on the head and all over the body, eyewitness said.

The Hill Women’s Federation president Ms Konika Dewan has condemned the incident and demanded that the government takes immediate steps to bring the culprits to justice.
