THE Border Guard Bangladesh
personnel yesterday detained eight Myanmar
nationals (Rohingya) on charges of illegal entry into Bangladesh
territory, reports Suprobhat Bangladesh,
a Bengali daily published from Chittagong.
The
Rohingyas were arrested by 17 Border Guard Battalion of BGB from Reju-Amtoli
and Tumru border areas under Ghumdhum Union in Nakyongchari Upazila of
Bandarban.
However,
all of them were pushed back to Myanmar
after interrogation in the afternoon.
Lt.
Col. Md. Khalequzzaman said, ‘the arrested are from Buchidong area of Myanmar.’
‘We
have stepped up patrol to stem cross-border infiltration. We are arresting
Rohingya people daily while crossing the borders at Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban
points. We give them food and medical assistance and then send them back to
Myanmar.’ he added.
