A
TEENAGE girl was raped in Rangamati town on Wednesday, 21 November, reports
Prothom Alo, a Bengali daily.
The
police yesterday arrested Ramesh Tripura, 36, from Reserve Bazar of the town in
connection with the incident.
A
case has been filed against him with Kotwali Thana (police station) under Women
and Child Repression Prevention Act.
Quoting
the officer-in-charge of the Thana,
the paper said the victim had come to Rangamati from Baghaichari with her two
cousins (maternal brothers) to participate in Kathin Chibor Dana, a Buddhist
religious festival, at Rajbana Vihara.
‘They
checked in Al-amin hotel at Reserve Bazaar as they have no close relatives in
the town to put up with.’
In
a room close to theirs stayed Ramesh Tripura, who had duped the girl into
opening the door saying the police wanted to check the room.
He
forcibly took the girl out after locking up her cousins from outside.
At
dawn he took the girl to hotel Shyamlodge in the same area and raped her. At
about 11am, he let her go.
Ramesh
Tripura is a resident of Gorjontoli in Rangamati town. His father’s name is Bir
Kishore Tripura.
