THE FORTY Tripura families who were driven out of their village on Tuesday night are yet to return to their homes.

They fled into the jungle when a group of Bengali settlers attacked their village Takar Moni Para in Gomati under Matiranga Upazila in Khagrachari district.

Later they took refuge in another village in the area.

“We cannot go back because there is no security of life and property. There is no guarantee that the settlers will not come and attack us again. We are afraid of them.” one of victim told chtnews.com.

Two days after the attack, the government has not taken any action either to arrest the perpetrators or to rehabilitate the displaced Jummas.

The local administration in Matiranga even denied that the attack has ever taken place.

Motin Tripura, one of the victims, said no local administration official has contacted them since the attack and added, ‘We want to go back to our homes and request the government to give us safety and security.’

He said the people of the village where they have taken refuge gave them some food, but they themselves are poor. ‘We don’t know what will become of us. The life we live is not life’ he added.
