INNOCENT Jumma villagers are
reportedly being tortured during a military operation to rescue five Teletalk
employees allegedly kidnapped in Baghaichari under Rangamati district.
According to sources, hundreds of
army soldiers have taken part in the operation and on Thursday morning they
raided a number of villages including Bongoltoli, Balukhali, Tindhalya and
Rupokari.
In the village of Balukhali, at
least one villager named Gyanankor Chakma, 35, son of Jolongo Kumar Chama is
known to have been tortured and the house of his brother Saranankar Chakma
searched.
The soldiers also picked up Laxmi
Raj Chakma, 32 and Seneha Kumar Chakma, 45, from the same village.
Earlier, at 6am, the army men seized
mobile phone sets from Purno Dorshi Chakma, 50, in West Balukhali and from
Nobel Chakma, 19, and Rubel Chakma, 22, in Jhagrabil.
The military operation has been
ongoing since 9 July.
