ARMED members loyal to Santu Larma
have shot dead two persons including a member of the UPDF in Naniachar, sources
say, as many Jumma organizations and their sympathizers observe the 18th
anniversary of the abduction of Kalpana Chakma.
Satyo Chakma alias Broto, 30, a
member of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot dead at about
10:30am today at Ataro Mile on Khagrachari-Rangamati road.
The Santu group men, numbering 10 –
12, ambushed him on both sides of the road.
When attacked from both sides of the
road, Satyo tried to run away, but the gunmen chased and caught him and then
shot him dead.
After that, the Santu loyalists took
Bishu Kumar Chakma, 42, from his grocery shop to some distance and then killed
him as well.
After killing both of them, the
Santu group men fled towards Ramhari Para village.
Bishu Chakma, son of Rabi Kumar
Chakma, originally hails from Laxmichari Upazila in Khagrachari district.
He had been living at Ataro Mile
with his family since he left his village of Bokyachara in Laxmichari couple of
years ago due to harassment by military-backed Borkha Party terrorists.
The dead UPDF member, Satyo Chakma,
is from the village of Maischari under Subolong Union of Barkal Upazila. His
father’s name is Banshi Chakma.
The UPDF has condemned the attack as
“heinous and cowardice” and urged the people to resist the Santu group, who are
implementing the government agenda of destroying Jummas by using Jummas.
