THE Bengali labourers
employed by BGB Battalion 51, which is embroiled in a land dispute with local
Jumma inhabitants, attempted to attack Mukullya Chakma, 50, when he protested
the encroachment of his land at Shashi Mohan Karbari Para under Dighinala Union
No. 4 in Dighinala Upazila on Friday, 12 September.
The Bengali labourers under order from the BGB tried
to attack him with dao (machete), axe and sticks when he protested the cutting
of his hilly land.
It
is to be noted that the BGB Battalion 51 had occupied 45 acres of land
belonging to Jumma inhabitants including Mukullya Chakma in May.
The
forcible occupation resulted in the displacement of 21 Jumma families who have
taken shelter at Babuchara High School.
The
victims filed a writ petition against the unlawful occupation of their land and
the High Court ordered a status quo, banning any activity by BGB at the
occupied land.
But
the BGB continue to flout the High Court order.
