SIX MORE houses have
been searched in Bongoltoli Union under Baghaichari Upazila, Rangamati.
The searches were carried
out by army personnel from Korengatoli camp in the small hours today, Monday,
13 July.
According to sources,
a group of 33 army personnel led by Major Selim, Commander of Korengatoli camp,
raided
the village of Dangachara and searched six houses
including that of Amar Chan Chakma, 48, a member of Bongoltoli Union Council.
The other houses
searched belong to Tengo Chakma (53) son of late Ranga Chan Chakma and his
brother Priti Kumar Chakma (35), Joar Chakma (53) son of late Jhagaran Chakma,
and his brother Nigira Moni Chakma (48) and Shubo Chandra Chakma (46) son of
Amar Nath Chakma.
The soldiers broke
into the house of Nigira Moni Chakma, who was away to Khagrachari for his wife
medical treatment, and turned the rooms of the house upside down.
They also destroyed
his land documents and free logging permits and took away a photograph of him.
Nothing incriminating
was found in the searches that lasted several house.
Raids and house
searches by army have been frequent lately in Baghaichari, causing fear among
the Jumma inhabitants.
On 6 and 11 July, the
army had searched houses in the same area.
