THE Bengali settlers and the
army on Wednesday attempted to grab land belonging to Jumma people and set up a
mosque and army camp in Ramgarh, Khagrachari.
According to local sources, a
group of army personnel from Manikchari sub zone and a group of 30-40 Bengali
settlers went to North Halfchari, about three kilometrs south-east of
Manikchari Upozila headquarters, and tried to build a mosque on 2 acres of land
belonging to Tuio Marma (25) son of Apruchi Marma and an army camp on 6 acres
of land belonging to Sadhon Chakma (25) son of Sumati Chakma.
They began building the
mosque and the camp at 10 a. m. but the Jumma villagers dismantled the
structure in the afternoon after the army had the army and settlers had left.
