MEMBERS of the
military-backed Borkha Party vigilante group on Saturday night raided the house
of an UPDF activist at Number 10 in Matiranga, Khagrachari apparently to kill
or abduct him.
Five Borkha men and
two Bengali settlers raided the house of Pai Kumar Tripura at 10pm on Saturday,
his wife Bishwa Rani Tripura told chtnews.com.
She recognized Subol
Tripura, one of the five Borkha terrorists, who misbehaved with her and asked
about her husband.
‘They asked where my
husband was, whether he came to house and whether he owned any guns’, she said.
Earlier, on 25 and 28
August, the Borkha Party terrorists and the army had jointly raided Pai Kumar
Tripura’s house.
The Borkha Party is a
vigilante group created by the army in Laxmichari to counter the growing
influence of the UPDF. But couple of years later the JSS (Santu) subsumed it
supplying it with manpower as well as equipments.
Although the Borkhas
claim themselves to be members of the Jana Samhati Samiti, they continue to be
known as Borkha Party among the common people in the area.
