Settler attack leaves 3 Jummas injured in Manikchari

A COMMUNAL attack by Bengali settlers has left three Jummas of a single family injured in Manikchari, Khagrachari.

The injured include 70-year old Mrasha Marma, his son Ramruchai Marma, 40, and grandson Kyachai Marma, 18.

Of them, Mrasha has been stated to be in a serious condition and was admitted to Manikchari Upazila Health complex. His son was also admitted to the same hospital with serious injuries.

About 50 – 60 Bengali settlers armed with machetes, spears and sticks carried out the attack at Chokkyabil village at 5pm Friday.

The settlers were from Zia Nagar cluster village and were led by Md. Mozammel.

When the Jummas tried to resist the settlers staged a retreat.

Later army and police personnel appeared at the scene and the settlers went back.

The situation is calm but a sense of insecurity is prevailing among the Jumma inhabitants.
