Jummas including an organizer of the UPDF Khagrachari district unit have been
arrested in Khagrachari, according to sources.
A group
of plainclothes security personnel arrested Pratim Chakma, Organizer of UPDF
Khagrachari district Unit, at 12:30 pm today from a shop near Doshobal Buddist
temple in North Khabongpujjay of the town.
The
others arrested include Ziko Tripura, organising secretary of the Democratic
Youth Forum, Nikash Chakma, organising secretary of the PCP Khagrachari Govt. College
Unit, Swapon Chakma, a businessman, and Manik Dhan Chakma, the owner of the
shop where the arrests have been made.
The
security personnel also tortured Manik Dhan Chakma and Konkon Chakma alias
Jallya, a resident of the area.
In
another drive the army arrested Ronju Chakma alias Khokan from his home at
Ananta Master Para of Naranghia at 2:30 pm.
Ranju is
the finance secretary of the Huang Boi-O-Ba, a community library at Swanirbhor,
Khagrachari town.
All the
arrestees have been taken to Khagrachari Zone headquarters, sources have added.
Pradipan
Khisha, chief organizer of UPDF Khagrachari district unit, has condemned the
arrest as a flagrant violation of human rights and demanded their immediate and
unconditional release.
