No.36/2016: Friday, April 22, 2016
THE
ACTIVISTS of the Bangladesh Chattra League, the student wing of the ruling
Awami League, roughed up their co-activist belonging to Tripura community in
Matiranga, Khagrachari district today.
Jawaharlal
Tripura, 35, was beaten up at Ajodhya Moar area near Matiranga town in the
afternoon today.
The
incident is related to the UP elections to be held tomorrow, and has its origin
in another incident which took place yesterday, April 21.
According
to sources, on Thursday night Chattra League activist Rahim and his friends had
visited Jawaharlal Tripura’s house at Shonkhola-para to campaign for Tajul
Islam, a candidate for Ward No. 8 of Belchari Union.
When
Jawaharlal said that he would not vote for Tajul, Rahim became furious, and a
heated exchange of words ensued between them.
Rahim
returned home after failing to persuade Jawaharlal to work and vote for Tajul.
