Two Jummas wounded in settler attack in Alikadam

A JUMMA couple was wounded when they came under attack by a group of fanatic Bengali settlers in Alikadam in the southern most Chittagong Hill Tracts on Monday, April 18.

The attack took place after the bodies of three Bengali cattle traders, believed to have been kidnapped and murdered, were recovered in nearby Thanchi Upazila.

On the day of incident, Jonak Tripura and his wife were walking down a road at Chowmuhoni bus terminal area when the settlers, angry over the death of the cattle traders, swooped on them, injuring them severely.

Both the husband and wife were admitted to the local health complex with multiple injuries, sources said.

When informed, a strong contingent of army, BGB and police personnel rushed to the spot, charged baton into the crowd and brought the situation under control.
