A SIXTH grade Jumma
student was reportedly raped yesterday in Panchari when she went to a bamboo
firm nearby their village Joutha Khamar Para to gather bamboo shoots.
Another girl, much
younger then herself, was along with the 14-year-old victim, but she ran away
when her attacker, a Bengali settler of about 20 years of age, grabbed her.
The escaped girl then
informed the villagers about the incident, which took place at about 10 am.
But by the time they
reached the spot, the culprit had already escaped.
They recovered the
victim and then sent her to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for medical examination.
The victim is a student
of Panchari Bazar Pilot High School and belongs to Marma community.
The name of the
assaulter could not be known immediately, but according to the victim he lives
in Domdom under Panchari Sadar Union.
She said she knew him by
face and that she would be able to identify him if presented before her.
