In the ongoing week-long military operation in
Panchari, Khagrachari, the army has once again conducted raids on villagers'
homes and physically abused an innocent youth.
According to reports, early this morning (Sunday, 31
August 2025) around 3:00 AM, approximately 50 to 60 army personnel stationed
earlier in Jagapara, along with another similar number arriving in five
vehicles from the Panchari sub-zone, surrounded the village of Jubonaksha Para
in Ward No. 2 of Chengi Union.
In the early morning, the army detained and
physically tortured an 18-year-old youth named Punya Jyoti Chakma, son of Nishan
Chakma.
The soldiers also forcibly took the village headman
(Karbari) of Jubonaksha Para, Suprabhat Chakma, with them and conducted
searches in the homes of at least five villagers.
The homes searched belonged to:
1. Sharot Babu Chakma (55), son of the late Amor
Chandra Chakma
2. Shildhon Chakma (70), son of the late Gola Ram
Chakma
3. Ramdash Chakma (60), son of Doyardom Chakma
4. Nirashwar Chakma (60), son of the late Durga
Mohan Chakma
5. Artik Moni Chakma (55), village headman of
Jagatsen Para, son of the late Jagat Sen Chakma
Finding nothing illegal during the searches, the
army attempted to take Punya Jyoti Chakma into custody, but were forced to
release him due to resistance from local residents.
It is noteworthy that since August 25, the army has
been conducting operations in Chengi and Logang unions of Panchari upazila,
allegedly targeting the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), resulting in
widespread harassment including house raids in several villages.
