A team of
army personnel is currently stationed at the remote Naraychari Government
Primary School in Babuchara Union of Dighinala upazila in Khagrachhari,
according to reports. Locals fear that the army may carry out operations from
there.
Yesterday
(August 26), the army allegedly seized engine-powered boats from seven
individuals in the Dhanpada area and traveled to Naraichari. The day before
(August 25), a group of 80 soldiers from the Dighinala Army Zone and Jarulchari
Sub-Zone had taken position in Pakujjyachari of the Dhanpada area.
According to
available information, the army is reportedly conducting operations in the
Naraichari area to support the JSS (Santu Group). A source indicated that the
army might stage a so-called “arms recovery” operation with the special
assistance of the Santu Group at any time.
Additionally,
the army has been patrolling in several other areas, including Babuchara,
Baradam, and Nityagan.
There are
also allegations that yesterday, civilians were harassed under the pretext of
search and interrogation at army checkpoints in the Babuchara camp and
Jarulchari sub-zone. It has also been reported that the army imposed
restrictions for three days on the transportation of essential goods to the
Dhanpada-Naraichari area.
