A heightened army presence and increased patrols in
the Dabua area of Kawkhali Upazila, Rangamati, have created a sense of
apprehension among local residents.
According to local sources, at 3 p.m. yesterday
(August 27), a group of soldiers from the Godarpar Army Camp traveled from
Raojan in a pickup truck and arrived at Dabua Headman Para around 6 p.m. They
then took up a position at the Dabua Briskha Bhanupur High School. About 30-40
minutes later, another army unit arrived in a separate vehicle from the camp to
join them, and they stayed there overnight.
This morning, Thursday (August 28, 2025), the soldiers
left the school and began patrolling the Dhupchari market. It has been reported
that due to fear caused by the patrols, ordinary people who came to the market
to sell goods were unable to do so properly. Last week, a group of soldiers had
gone to the Dhupchari market and forcibly taken and checked people's mobile
phones. As a result, people in the market today were afraid that something
similar might happen again.
The soldiers then moved from there to the Dabua market
in the afternoon. After patrolling the Dabua market area at 1:00 p.m., they
returned to the school.
Meanwhile, classes have been disrupted since the
soldiers have been staying at the school since yesterday. Students who went to
class today, Thursday (August 28), complained that the soldiers were bothering
them with various questions.
A female student told this correspondent, "The
army members are supposed to stay at their camp. Why are they occupying our
school? Whenever they come here, they always stay at our school, which disrupts
our classes."
According to reports, the soldiers were still at the
school at the time this report was being written. The residents of the area are
reportedly living in a state of terror, fearing oppression and harassment due
to the army's presence there.
Separately, a report says that a 20-member army unit
from the Furomoun Army Camp in Ghagra Union took up a position at
"Harangipara High School" at 2 p.m. today.
