The Matiranga and
Guimara branches of the Greater Chittagong Hill Tracts Hill Students’ Council
(PCP) and the Democratic Youth Forum (DYF) held a demonstration in Guimara
protesting repression carried out in the name of military operations and
demanding the withdrawal of military rule imposed under “Operation Uttoron”.
The protest took place
today, Saturday (August 30, 2025), at 11 a.m. on the Abhya Border Road. It
began with a procession in the Dhaniram Para area and concluded with a rally
near the Lakshmichari BGB camp.
The rally was presided
over by Roni Tripura, president of the Democratic Youth Forum Matiranga Upazila
branch, and moderated by Mongpru Marma, general secretary of the PCP Guimara
branch.
Speakers included Niken
Chakma, president of the PCP Guimara unit; Riken Chakma, member of the DYF
Khagrachari district committee; and Barun Chakma, organizer of the UPDF
Matiranga unit.
The speakers strongly
condemned the military’s alleged occupation of school buildings to convert them
into “temporary camps,” indiscriminate house raids, misconduct towards women,
looting, arbitrary arrests, harassment, disruption of school activities, and
the resulting indescribable public suffering. They demanded an immediate end to
these repressive activities.
The speakers claimed
that `military rule is being imposed in the Chittagong Hill Tracts under the
name of “Operation Uttoron,” and through it, the general public is being
subjected to repression and abuse. Democratic rights, and the right to move and
live freely, are being violated. Even during the current interim government,
the public is facing daily injustices in the name of military
operations—arbitrary arrests, searches, abuse, harassment, and looting have
made life unbearable.’
They alleged that every
day, the army is raiding someone's home and looting under the pretense of
conducting searches.

Towards the end of the rally, a few BGB members attempted to
obstruct it. |
The speakers called on the interim government to immediately withdraw military rule – imposed under “Operation Uttoron”—from the Chittagong Hill Tracts, establish a democratic environment, and stop the ongoing repression carried out in the name of military operations.
At the end of the
rally, a few members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) appeared and tried to
obstruct the event and seize the protest banners. However, when the
participants protested, the BGB personnel were unable to proceed further.
