The Bangladesh Army personnel, accompanied by members
of the vigilante group known as Mottaleb Bahini, conducted a raid on villagers'
homes in Jatindra Karbari Para, located in Ward 1 of the Lakshmichari Union
under Lakshmichari Upazila in Khagrachari district.
The raid took place in the early hours of Monday (13
October 2025), from around 3:00 AM to 6:30 AM.
According to sources, a 62-member army team from the
Lakshmichari Army Zone arrived in six vehicles and stormed the village of
Jatindra Karbari Para. The soldiers then split into three groups to conduct the
search. The first and second groups carried out house raids, while the third
group surrounded the village's market area to prevent anyone from moving in or
out.
The first group went to the house of Suresh Chakma.
The second group raided and searched the house of Buddh Chakma. During the
search, the army reportedly verbally abused the residents and demanded,
"Where are the weapons?" They ransacked the house but found no
illegal items.
Later, the army also conducted extensive searches at
the homes of other villagers, including Debendra Chakma, Long Chakma, and Hari
Chakma, asking them, "Where are the terrorists?"
After the searches, the first and second groups
rejoined the others at the main road near the Bazar (market) area. All the
soldiers then left together and returned to the Lakshmichari Army Zone.
Before leaving, the army temporarily detained two
villagers — Bhattu Chakma (50), son of the late Bajanya Chakma, and Rimantu
Chakma (18), son of Bindu Chakma — tying them up and taking them a short
distance away before releasing them.
Among the three members of the Mottaleb Bahini who
accompanied the army, two were identified.
They are:
1.Utpal Chakma (33), son of Shashi Bhushan Chakma,
from Manikchari village, Ward 2, Fatikchari Union Parishad, Kaukhali,
Rangamati.
2. Durjoy Chakma (30), son of Hangaru Chakma, from
Thalyapara village, Lakshmichari Union, Khagrachari.
The identity of the third individual remains unknown.
This military raid and the accompanying harassment
have sparked anger and concern among local residents. They have called on the
authorities to immediately put an end to such harassment.
