A human chain was held in Kaukhali demanding the
unconditional release of Aloron Chakma, an Honours first-year student at
Rangamati Government College and a cultural activist, and the immediate arrest
of those responsible for his abduction.
The human chain was organized on Thursday morning
(October 9) in the Kaukhali upazila headquarters of Rangamati by “Family,
Relatives, Classmates, and Residents of Hajachari Village” and “Agmuleem Club
Shilpi Goshthi (Artist Group).”
The event was presided over by Momota Chakma, a
dance instructor at Agmuleem Club, and conducted by student representative Ajay
Marma. Among the speakers were Aloron's classmate Dayaran Chakma, Agmuleem Club
member Prantika Chakma, local youth representative Sanju Chakma, women’s
representative Asha Chakma, community leader (Karbari) Bindu Kumar Chakma,
local public representative Kiran Chakma, and Aloron's parents Priyo Dhan
Chakma and Kalpana Chakma.
When Aloron Chakma's mother Kalpana Chakma attempted
to speak, she broke down in tears. Onlookers helped to console her. Through her
sobs, she pleaded for her son's safe return.
Aloron’s father, Priyo Dhan Chakma, shared that he
had searched many places for his missing son and even filed a General Diary
(GD) at the police station. However, he claimed that due to threats from the
police, he was forced to withdraw the GD.
He appealed to the abductors to release his son and
urged the district administration to intervene and rescue him.

Other speakers said that Aloron Chakma is a member
of the Agmuleem Club Shilpi Goshthi and is known for being gentle, polite, and
principled. After completing his HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) exams, he
took coaching classes for about a month in preparation for university admission
at Chittagong University. However, due to financial difficulties, he couldn’t
continue the coaching or take the admission test. He later enrolled in the
Mathematics department at Rangamati Government College. To support himself and
his family, he worked part-time at a pharmacy in Rangamati town and stayed at
an elder brother’s residence in the TTC area.
On October 3, at around 5:45 PM, he left home to go to the market and never returned.
They said that his disappearance has created great
concern among neighbors and classmates. The area in Rangamati town where Aloron
went missing is known to be a stronghold of the Santu Larma faction of the JSS
(Jana Samhati Samiti). The speakers alleged that members of the JSS’s student,
youth, and women’s wings were involved in his abduction.
They further claimed that when Aloron’s friends and
classmates tried to protest and search for him, JSS (Santu) student and women’s
wing members snatched their mobile phones, wallets, and laptops, and threatened
them—proving, in their view, that the JSS was behind the abduction.
Expressing deep concern over the lack of progress
even after six days, speakers said that Aloron’s father had filed a GD at the
Rangamati Kotwali Police Station on October 5. Police reportedly informed him
that Aloron’s last known location was near K K Roy Road. However, the next day,
police summoned him to the station and allegedly forced him to withdraw the GD.
They criticized the police, saying they should have
taken action to find the missing student, but instead, they protected the
perpetrators by making the father withdraw the GD.
Speakers at the human chain demanded the immediate
and safe return of Aloron Chakma and called on the administration to arrest the
abductors.
Placards displayed at the human chain read:
• “Immediately release Aloron Chakma
unconditionally.”
• “Arrest the identified abductors of the JSS
(Santu) group: Zico, Abhi, and Kanchana Chakma.”
• “Is the administration trying to protect the
criminals by forcing withdrawal of the GD?”
• “Unconditional release of cultural activist Aloron
Chakma.”
• “Free the talented student Aloron Chakma.”
