The three jum (shifting cultivation) cultivators who
were abducted earlier today (Friday, October 10, 2025) by the JSS (Santu Group)
from Doluchari, a village in Sajek Union of Rangamati district near the border
of Dhanpada-Jarulchari under Babuchara Union of Dighinala, Khagrachhari, have
been released.
They were reportedly released around 6:30 PM this
evening in the Bichchichara area of Dhanpada, under Babuchara Union in
Dighinala.
The victims are:
1. Badibukya Chakma (34), son of Rupadhan Chakma,
village: Jarulchari, Babuchara Union, Dighinala, Khagrachari.
2. Kalabatya Chakma (25), son of Madan Chakma,
village: Jarulchari, Babuchara Union, Dighinala.
3. Swapan Bikash Chakma (25), son of Bimolendu Chakma,
village: Maggya Karbari Para (Rastamatha), Babuchara Union, Dighinala,
Khagrachari.
All three make their living through jum farming in the
Doluchari area.
At around 8:45 AM, a 13-member armed group led by
Ramesh Chakma, a commander of the Santu Group, and member Ishan Chakma,
abducted the three jum cultivators — a report of which was published earlier by
CHT News.
After nearly 10 hours of captivity, the abductees were
released at 6:30 PM from the Bichchichara area in Dhanpada, Babuchara Union,
Dighinala.
Local sources confirmed that the released individuals
have since returned safely to their homes.
Meanwhile, locals also reported that an armed group of about 60 members of the Santu Group has taken position in the Bichchichara area.
