A member of the United People's Democratic Front
(UPDF) has been detained by the army from the Bogachari area of Naniachar
upazila in Rangamati.
The arrest took place this Saturday afternoon (October
11, 2025).
The detained UPDF member has been identified as
Bhagyamoy Chakma (37), son of the late Sadhan Chandra Chakma of Saridash Para,
Ward No. 3, Burighat Union No. 3.
According to sources, around 3 PM, while on his way
for organizational work, members of the army stopped a motorcycle near the
Bogachari police camp on the Rangamati–Khagrachari road and detained both
Bhagyamoy Chakma and the motorcycle rider Lelin Chakma (28).
Following the detention, the army took both
individuals to the Naniachar Army Zone in a vehicle.
At the time of the arrest, UPDF member Bhagyamoy
Chakma was reportedly on his way to the Ramhari Para area by hired motorcycle
to collect relief for victims of the communal attacks in Guimara. It was
reported that he had taka 45,000 in cash collected for the victims.
According to the latest information, Bhagyamoy Chakma
was subjected to inhumane physical torture at the Naniachar Army Zone, after
which a weapon was planted on him, and he was handed over to the Naniachar
police station. Meanwhile, the motorcycle rider Lelin Chakma was released from
the army zone.
Motorcycle rider Lelin Chakma is a resident of Jurbo
Mahajan Para in Ward No. 8 of Naniachar Sadar Union. His father's name is
Ranjit Chakma.
