The United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) has
welcomed the call made by the 'Hill Student Movement Against Conflict and
Discrimination' to the 'regional political parties' to field coordinated
candidates in the three Hill Tracts constituencies for the Thirteenth National
Parliamentary Election, scheduled to be held on February 12, 2026.
Aongay Marma, Spokesperson for the UPDF, said in a
statement today, Friday, December 12, 2025, "This call from the Hill
Student Movement Against Conflict and Discrimination is highly timely and
reflects the hopes and aspirations of the general people of the Chittagong Hill
Tracts."
He conveyed his party's opinion that the UPDF is
willing to support any honest, capable, and non-partisan individual acceptable
to the majority—even if they are outside the party—by making the maximum
compromise in the greater national interest for the Thirteenth National
Parliamentary Election on February 12.
Aongay Marma requested the civil society members of
the Chittagong Hill Tracts to take the initiative to select and nominate the
coordinated candidates.
