The Bangladesh Army soldiers reportedly demolished two
under-construction houses belonging to indigenous people in the Gachhbagan Para
area of Bilaichari Upazila in Rangamati district.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday (24 January 2026).
Those whose houses were allegedly demolished are: Sukhomoy Chakma,
son of Doyal Chakma, and Dhaneshwar Chakma, father unknown.
According to reports, the houses of the two individuals were
allegedly demolished and razed with a bulldozer under the command of Major Atik
and Warrant Officer (Subedar) Mosharraf of the Army’s 26 Engineer Construction
Battalion (26 ECB).
In a video recorded after the incident and circulated on social
media, allegations were made that the army tortured indigenous people at the
site.
Local residents allege that the army has undertaken an initiative to
establish a tourist center in the Gachhbagan Para area, and that as part of
this plan, they are making various efforts to evict the local indigenous
population.
