Two Arrested in Khagrachari Over Attack on Hill People Following Land Dispute

Three hill people injured in an attack by settlers in Kamolchhari.

Police have reportedly arrested two individuals in connection with an attack on hill people that occurred on 14 January 2026 in Headman Para (Khalpara) area of Kamalchari under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila, following a land dispute. The arrested persons are Md. Abdur Rashid and Md. Ala Amin. According to police sources, Ala Amin was arrested from Kumilla on Thursday (22 January).

In connection with the incident, Mongshitu Marma filed a case at Khagrachari Sadar Police Station, naming six accused persons and additionally accusing 20–25 unidentified individuals.

It may be recalled that on 14 January, Thoaihlaong Chowdhury, a resident of Kamalchari Headman Para, went to clean his mango orchard along with two laborers, Bimal Tripura and Milan Chakma. At around 3:30 pm, a group of settlers led by Abdul Bashir from Bhuachari village obstructed them from cleaning the orchard and, at one point, launched an attack using sharp weapons.

As a result, all three were seriously injured. Among the injured, Bimal Tripura remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
