Members of the Bangladesh Army allegedly snatched
ballot boxes from election officials on their way to a polling center in
Naniarchar, Rangamati.
The incident reportedly occurred today (Wednesday, 11
February 2026) at around 2:30 pm.
According to local sources, ahead of the 13th National
Parliament election scheduled for tomorrow (12 February 2026), presiding
officers and other officials assigned to election duties were traveling by
engine-driven trawler from Naniarchar upazila headquarters to the Kathaltali
Government Primary School polling center, carrying voting materials. On the
way, at a jetty in the uapzila, army personnel reportedly unloaded and held the
ballot boxes from the trawler.
However, the election officials and presiding officers
on duty did not engage in any argument with the soldiers. Instead, they
proceeded to the designated polling center and informed the Upazila Nirbahi
Officer (UNO) about the matter by phone. It is reported that about half an hour
later, army personnel transported the ballot boxes to the polling center by
speedboat.
It could not be confirmed whether the ballot boxes
were sntached due to a misunderstanding or for some other purpose.
Meanwhile, after news of the incident spread, local
residents said that concerns have arisen among voters about whether they will
be able to cast their votes freely and properly tomorrow.
