An attack was carried out on Jumma voters by alleged
BNP terrorists while they were on their way to vote at the Kashkhali Government
Primary School polling center in Kaukhali upazila of Rangamati during the 13th
National Parliamentary Election. At least five men and women were injured in
the incident.
The incident reportedly took place around 9:00 a.m.
today, Thursday (12 February 2026).
The injured are:
1. Thuinoi Marma, father: Angfa Marma, village: Choto
Navanga Para, Ward No. 1, Kashkhali
2. Ruichingma Marma, father: Angsa Pru Marma, village:
Choto Navanga Para, Ward No. 1, Kashkhali
3. Chandradhan Chakma, father: Bijoy Kumar Chakma,
village: Dolupura
4. Pritimoy Chakma, father: Lalit Chandra Chakma,
village: Dolupura
5. Mika Chakma, father: Bindu Lal Chakma, village:
Dolupura
All of them are residents of Ward No. 1 of Ghagra
Union.
According to the injured and eyewitnesses, Jumma
voters from various distant villages set out in groups in the morning toward
the polling center. When they reached the area near the abandoned army camp in
Kashkhali, close to the polling center, a group of Bengali settler miscreants
allegedly supported by BNP candidate Dipen Dewan attacked them with sticks. As
a result, the five Jumma people mentioned above were injured.
Due to fear, the injured have not been able to go to
the hospital for treatment. They are currently receiving local treatment at
home.
Among those identified as being involved in the attack
are:
1. Md. Iqbal, father: unknown, village: Kashkhali,
Ghagra Union Parishad, Kaukhali, Rangamati. He is the nephew of Md. Matlab
Member, General Secretary of Kaukhali Thana BNP.
2. Md. Belal (CNG driver), father: Abdul Salam,
village: Kashkhali, Ghagra Union Parishad, Kaukhali, Rangamati.
3. Md. Shahabuddin, father: Sonjit, village:
Kashkhali, Ghagra Union Parishad, Kaukhali, Rangamati.
4. Md. Rashed (1), father: unknown, village:
Kashkhali, Ghagra Union Parishad, Kaukhali, Rangamati.
5. Md. Rashed (2), father: unknown, village:
Rangipara, Ghagra Union Parishad, Kaukhali, Rangamati.
6. Md. Tofayel, father: unknown, village: Rangipara,
Ghagra Union Parishad, Kaukhali, Rangamati.
A tense situation is currently prevailing in the area
following the attack.
It is noteworthy that out of approximately 2,500
voters at the center, slightly more than 300 are Jumma voters. The polling
center is located in a settler-dominated area and is about 1.5 to 2 kilometers
away from the Jumma villages.
