Bangladesh Army personnel allegedly harassed five
Indigenous people while they were returning home after work in Guimara,
Khagrachari.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday
afternoon, May 13, 2026, on the road from Pathachhara to Riyongmora in Guimara
Upazila.
A man named Kaysai Marma wrote in a Facebook post at
around 8:30 PM on Wednesday that the five of them were returning home at around
3:00 PM after finishing work. They were carrying work tools, including
machetes, while their bags contained tiffin boxes, water bottles, and clothes.
On the road from Pathachhara to Riyongmora, they encountered 12 Bangladesh Army
personnel.
According to the post, the army personnel surrounded
them, searched them, and recorded videos of them. Kaysai Marma stated that when
he took out his mobile phone to record the soldiers’ actions, the army
personnel seized his phone and deleted the recorded video. The incident led to
a verbal altercation between them and the soldiers.
Kaysai Marma also stated that 6 to 7 local women arrived at the scene during the incident and became involved in an argument with the army personnel. Despite protests from the women, the soldiers allegedly refused to release them immediately. After detaining them for some time, the army personnel eventually allowed them to leave.
Recently, allegations of harassment by army personnel
have increased in different areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Local
residents reportedly continue to face harassment and intimidation.
