A large deployment of Bangladesh Army personnel has
reportedly taken position in the Moratila area of Panchari Upazila in
Khagrachari District, raising concern among local residents.
According to local sources, at approximately 8:00 AM
on Monday, May 11, around 60 to 65 army personnel arrived in the Moratila area
from the Panchari Sub-Zone in six vehicles and took position at Moratila
Government Primary School. Later, approximately 30 to 35 soldiers reportedly
proceeded on foot toward Profullo Para.
Residents stated that the army personnel are currently
stationed in two groups at Moratila Government Primary School and Profullo
Para. Local sources further alleged that two individuals, including Bikash
Tripura, whom residents described as a vigilante figure, were accompanying the
troops during the deployment.
Several residents, speaking on condition of anonymity,
said the military presence has created fear and anxiety among the local
indigenous population. They alleged that normal daily activities in the area
have been disrupted due to the situation.
Locals also expressed concern over the use of the primary school as a temporary military position, saying it could negatively affect students’ education. Women in the area reportedly expressed fear about traveling alone for work and other daily activities.
Meanwhile, residents from Chikonchan Para under Logang
Union and Jagpara under Chengi Union also raised allegations of harassment
against army personnel stationed at Samiti Mango Garden in those areas.
According to local residents, soldiers have been questioning unfamiliar
individuals and conducting late-night patrols, which they claim has contributed
to public anxiety and disrupted normal movement in the surrounding communities.
