One person, a motorcycle driver, was injured after the
Bangladesh Army allegedly opened fire in Ramgarh, Khagrachhari. Reports also
indicate that two members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) were
detained by army personnel.
The incident took place at around 11:30 a.m. on
Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the 6 Mile area of Ward No. 3 under Patachhara Union
in Ramgarh.
The injured individual was identified as Suithowai
Marma, 32, son of Mongsa Marma, from Joutha Khamar village under Ward No. 1 of
Ramgarh Sadar Union Parishad. He works as a motorcycle taxi driver. According
to reports, army personnel admitted him to Ramgarh Upazila Hospital after he
sustained gunshot injuries.
The two detained UPDF members were identified as:
1. Montu Chakma alias Ronel, 28, son of Samir Kanti
Chakma, from Pokkhimura village under Ward No. 2 of Sindukchhari Union Parishad
in Guimara, Khagrachhari.
2. Raju Marma alias Saching, 22, son of Monghla Pru
Marma, from Joutha Khamar village under Ramgarh Sadar Union Parishad,
Khagrachhari.
Sources said the two detainees are currently being
held in army custody.
According to local sources, the two UPDF members had
hired Suithowai Marma’s motorcycle and were traveling for organizational work
at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. When they reached the 6 Mile area, army
personnel who had allegedly been lying in wait opened fire on them. Suithowai
Marma was shot and injured during the incident.
Army personnel then detained the two UPDF members,
Montu Chakma and Raju Marma, along with the injured motorcycle driver. Local
sources said the army later took Suithowai Marma to Ramgarh Upazila Hospital
for treatment.
The incident has reportedly created fear and panic
among local residents.
As of the time of filing this report, locals said a
large number of army personnel remained deployed in the 6 Mile area.
According to the latest reports, the injured motorcycle driver, Suithowai Marma, is being transferred from Ramgarh Upazila Hospital to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, the two detained UPDF members were allegedly subjected to physical torture before receiving treatment at Ramgarh Upazila Hospital. They were later handed over to Ramgarh Police Station.
